Meet some of our wonderful teachers!

Mrs. Candida is February's lovely Teacher of the Month.  Candida has worked for a total of 10 years as a Pre-Tot teacher. She recently returned to us one year ago and we are delighted to have her back!  Candida brings so much love, affection and hugs to her children and her classroom each day that she is perfect for the February honor.     

The best part of being a teacher is...working with children and being a part of a learning environment.

  The most challenging part is...realizing how fast the children grow up. 

I am currently addicted to...Starbuck's Caramel Frappuccino.

  Nothing makes me laugh like... watching "Rush Hour" especially Chris Tucker.

My favorite place to hang out with family is...at the movies.

                                                                                         Life has taught me...how to be independent and blissful.

Mrs. Veronica, one of our outstanding Jr. Preschool Teachers, is January's Teacher of the Month!  Veronica was chosen for January because her attention to detail and love for the children shines through everything she does.  She is always willing to go the extra mile for the children and their parents; making extra notes on their daily reports, checking in with mom and dad via phone calls and even updating her classroom's facebook page so parents are always in-the-know.

My proudest teaching moment (so far)was...teaching an 18 month old how to say "bless you" when someone sneezes.  

My proudest non-teaching moment was...learning English in 6 months.  

I am currently addicted to...Raisinets.   Hardly anybody knows I... love the beach!

Life has taught me...Everything happens for a reason.

Miss Ashley is November's Teacher of the Month! Ashley is vibrant and fun; it's no wonder her school age kids love her so much.  Ashley has formed a special bond with her kindergarteners and first graders.  Early Horizons appreciates the fun she brings to her classroom each day.   

The best part of my job is...getting to see each and every child grow and succeed!

The most challenging part is...when kids move up to the next classroom.

I am currently addicted to...words with friends.

Hardly anyone knows I... am a country girl at heart.

If you told me 10 years ago where I am today, I'd be surprised that... I am ALREADY in the field of work that I want to do for a long time!

Ms. Kenyana, one of our amazing Infant Teachers, is December's Teacher of the Month!
Kenyana was chosen this month because she never stops loving, working and caring
for her babies and her classroom.  Kenyana makes herself available for any baby,
mommy or daddy at any time.  She goes above and beyond and everyone loves her for it!

My proudest non-teaching moment is...becoming an auntie!

Nothing makes me laugh like...girl talk with my best friend.

I am currently addicted to...photography.

My favorite thing about Early Horizons is... my co-workers and babies.

                                                            My favorite treat/junk food fix is... ice cream.

Ms. Debbie has worked as one of our wonderful preschool teachers since January of 2004.
Debbie is gentle, nurturing and patient with your toddlers as she teaches them to count
and to sing their ABC's.  Debbie's kind heart shines through as she works with little
children and their parents.

The best part of my job is...the relationships I have with the kids.

The most challenging part is...when families have to leave.


A day with plenty of "me-time" would involve...planting flowers in my tiny yard all day.

When I am elected Queen of America... I will look for my King!

Stacey

Miss Stacey has been a part of the Early Horizons family since April of 2009.  Stacey holds a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and has worked with children for 5 years. She most recently worked in the Jr. Pre-K Room, but has since been asked to join the Pre-K team.  Stacey has such a kind heart and is known for her patience.  Here is more about Stacey:

The best part of my job is...working with the kids and watching them grow and develop right in front of you . 
The most challenging part of my job is...saying goodbye (they grow so fast). 
When I'm craving a little retail therapy...I go shoe shopping: I LOVE shoes; they make me happy! 
On my iPod right now you will find...Taylor Swift, Linkin Park and Nickelback. 
The best decision I ever made was ...deciding to become a foster parent for dogs and working with Copper's Dream Rescue.  I would have never found my dog Brady.

Erin

Infant Teacher, Miss Erin is May's Teacher of the Month!!  Erin has been a part of the Early Horizons team for five years and has been a vital part of our Infant program each of those years.  Erin was chosen for this month's Teacher of the Month because of her incredible knowledge on how to care for infants and for her loving and reassuring ways with new, nervous parents.  She is also super friendly and fun to be around!

The best part of my job is...getting to see the interactions between children at such a young age.
The most challenging part of my job is...transitioning my kids up to the next room.  It's hard to say goodbye!
When I need to relieve stress, I head straight for...Rancho San Antonio Park or the beach- anywhere with fresh air, really.
Hardly anybody knows I...have NO sense of direction!
Life has taught me...pay attention to detail without sweating the small stuff!

Lisa

Lisa was chosen for March's teacher of the month because of her always calming and nurturing disposition.  Her finesse in handling any situation and communicating with children, parents and staff helps her go the distance here at EH.  We appreciate everything she does and can't wait to see what the future holds for this wonderfully caring infant teacher.    Lisa has worked at EH since 2004 and here is a little bit more about her...

The best part of my job is...watching the babies grow into toddlers and preschoolers AND working with the amazing teachers in my classroom.

The best teaching "trick"/advice I ever got was...practice patience, but above all, have fun.

Dawan

Dawan was chosen for this month's prestigious teacher of the month honor because of his dedication to Early Horizons' mission and philosophy and his pure love of working with very young children.  Dawan has been at Early Horizons since 2002.  He answered a few questions for us...
 
The best part of my job is...how I play a big part in changing the world by influencing the lives of children.
 
The best teaching "trick" or advice I ever got was...before you react, count to ten and see what will happen.  Let your child fail.  It brings about more success than you think.
 
My favorite treat or junk food fix is...a bag of sea salt and cracked pepper potato chips.

Mike

Mike worked at Early Horizons from 1997 to 2001 and has been back since 2007.  Currently he keeps the school age program running smoothly. We chose Mike for his initiative in classroom management and full-on engagement with the children in his class. Mike answered a few question for us...

The best part of my job is: Seeing smiles on the kids' faces, and watching them grow.   

The most challenging part of being a teacher is: Beating them at 4-Square! 

What do you like most about EH?: Being able to interact with all age groups, Infants to School age.  

My proudest non-teaching moment: Getting over my fear of heights and jumping out of a plane at 12,000 feet.

When I need to relieve stress I head straight for:The Basketball Court

Sami

Pre-K Teacher Miss Sami has been a teacher at EH for just over 10 years.  She has been working in our Pre-K program since 2006 and before that worked with some of our youngest, the infants.  Sami was chosen as this month's Teacher of the Month for her patience, warmth and tender nature.  Sami has just the right mix of softness and firmness that every teacher longs to have.  She is a well rounded teacher and deserves the spotlight.  Here is more about Miss Sami:

The best part of my job is...to see children grow. The most challenging part of my job is...to see them leave. 
A day with plenty of "me time" would involve...a pedicure and a massage. 
When I am elected Queen of America...I will travel a lot.

Mark

Mark was chosen as Teacher of the Month in April due to his loving and respectful  attitude towards children and parents. His curriculum skills are imaginative and educational and always seem to keep the children engaged.Mark has worked at EH since July of 2008 and here is a little bit more about him...

The best part of my job is...watching the babies grow into toddlers and preschoolers AND working with the amazing teachers in my classroom.

The best teaching "trick"/advice I ever got was...observe closely and let the children's ideas help you create a fun curriculum.

My proudest non-teaching moment...Having a baby and finding the girl I want to spend my life with.

Hardly anybody knows I...like going to book and garage sales looking for "treasure".

Christina

 Christina is a teacher in the Jr. Pre-K  room.  She is a perfect pick because she always has a rich curriculum planned for her class. Christina takes extra care to  offer fun, messy, sensory projects outside.   Christina lives with her two domestic short haired cats Dizzy & Bitsy. We asked her a few questions...  
The Best teaching trick I ever learned: When any boy says, "Hey Miss Christina look at this." - not to look.  

My philosophy: That I should concentrate my time and energy on things I enjoy doing and people I enjoy doing it with.

The best part of being a teacher is: That most of the children save their good behavior for me.

Lupe

Lupe is a teacher in the Preschool Room. She has worked at Early Horizons for 9 years.

She lives with her husband, Juan Carlos and their two children: Juan Carlos Jr., 5 and Danny, 3. 
Lupe describes herself as loving, caring and respectful, and we couldn't agree more!
She is an obvious choice for Teacher of the Month!

The best teaching advice I ever got was: 
Children grow up too quickly so treasure every moment.

My philosophy: 
To always be positive in life.

The best part of being a teacher is:
Seeing the look on a child's face when they accomplish something they've been working hard on.

The most challenging part of being a teacher is:
Trying new teaching methods.

What do you like most about EH?:
The children and parents!

A day with plenty of "me-time" would involve: 
Relaxing at the beach!

Christie

Meet Christie our toddler teacher extraordinaire. She is the mother of three: Jerome 27, Amanda 23 and Harrison 15. She and her husband, live in Cupertino. You may see her at lunch power walking the neighborhood.  Christie answered a few questions for us...

Be flexible & the process is more important than the product.

The reward of a smile, hug-love everyday

Being able to do everything you want to in a day!
